Cutting Costs All That Good?

Over the past few decades the growth of technology has over taken the business world by giving employees the opportunity to cut the business attire and allow them to work from the comfort of their own home. By having information at the fingertips of employees, company's costs have lowered by spending less on office space, stationary objects (pens, paper, etc.) as well as travelling costs between potential costumers/clients.

But is all this technology good? With the ever changing design and function of today are longtime employees finding it hard to keep up? Is having information at the push of a button to risky?

"It was recently reported that the average business laptop held about $1 million of commercial data." (Standley (2006)) So what happens when an employee leaves their Blackberry on the train? Or their laptop gets stolen while at a coffee shop?  While the company may be able to cut costs on physical items, what's the price to get it all the information back when it arrives in the wrong hands?

Of course with all the password protection equipped on most devices, do most of us ever use it? the hassle of typing in a code every time we receive a text, e-mail or when we want to display something send most of us up the wall including myself. However, most of us log out of our personal accounts such as our e-mail account, Facebook and other sites; but how many of us click "save our username and password" so we can cut that time off from typing it in?
